Understanding Cold Cranking Amps Vs. Reserve Capacity

Cold Cranking Amps
The CCA rating is used to define a battery’s ability to start an engine in cold temperatures. The rating refers to the number of amps a 12-volt battery can deliver at -18 C for 30 seconds while maintaining a voltage of at least 7.2 volts. The higher the CCA rating, the more starting power the battery has. Therefore, if you live in a cold climate, a battery’s CCA rating is an important consideration. In addition, since battery starting power deteriorates as the battery ages, a battery with a higher CCA rating will be more reliable.
